On January 9, 2015, the 2014 Science and Technology Awards Conference was held by the Chinese Central government in the Great Hall in Beijing. Alongside six other companies, and representing the automotive sector, Changan won the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
This award is a testament to Changan’s commitment to the advancement of technology and innovation, and it affirms Changan’s R & D capabilities.
The results of global collaboration
The National Science and Technology Awards are reviewed by China’s National Science and Technology Association and the State Council, representing the highest level award a company can get. Where the awards go is not only of great importance to the scientific community but also can become a focus of attention for the general public.
Changan initiated the Global collaborative innovation project in 2006. Since then, the company established R&D centers in Chongqing, Shanghai, Beijing, Turin (Italy), Yokohama (Japan) , Nottingham (UK), and Detroit (US). Staffed with 6000+ R&D professionals worldwide - including more than 200 senior experts, more than 300 foreign personnel, and12 experts selected from China’s “1000 experts plan" - the company is leading China's auto industry.
Changan Automobile steadfastly promotes innovation and devotes 5% of its annual revenue to R&D. A total of more than 12 billion RMB was allocated during its 11th Five-Year plan, and 20 billion RMB will be invested during its 12th Five-Year plan.
Cultivate top-notch innovation capability
Thanks to the implementation of the Global collaborative innovation project, Changan Automobile has made remarkable achievements. In the evaluation of 729 state-certified enterprises - performed by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and five other ministries - Changan has held the number 1 position of the Chinese auto industry for the past 3 years.
Among its many achievements, Changan’s collision safety technology is leading the world. The company also pioneered rear seat airbag technology, and earned five first place standings in Chinese crash tests. In the recent 2014 C-NCAP crash test, the CS75 achieved a 59 point rating - the highest score ever in the C-NCAP history - surpassing all joint ventures and domestic-branded models.
Changan also leads in vibration and noise control. In some areas, Changan is superior to both domestic and joint venture brands.
Leading China’s domestic brands
Driven by strong R & D efforts, Changan Automobile has launched a series of outstanding products and has gained much deserved market recognition. The Eado, CS, Alsvin, and Benni series rank first in their respective Chinese automotive segments. In particular, the attention attracted by CS75 has ranked first for eight consecutive months. Eado, CS75, CS35, and Honor have exceeded ten thousand monthly sales.
Changan sold 2.54 million units in 2014, an increase of 20% compared to 2013, and 13% higher than the industry average. Meanwhile, the Changan domestic-branded passenger vehicles posted sales of 770,000, an increase of 39% - 33% higher than industry average, leading the industry. |
